DJ Komatose

If you enjoy electronic music check out DJ Komatose. He is one of my mates that I lived with when I studied abroad in England and is quite talented.
Ashley Perera, aka Ash or DJ Komatose, started Djing for fun at the age of 13. His cousin, DJ Captain Apathy, who had already been DJing himself, began to teach Ash how to use his vinyl decks. Later, he switched over to CDJs when he moved to Leeds and met his mate Luke Gizborne (my other mate), aka DJ Kracka at Uni. Things soon started to became more serious for DJ Komatose when he got his first gig at The Rainbow in Birmingham. He has also played at a handful of places around the England area. DJ Komatose has been DJing for eight years now and does not plan on stopping anytime soon.

Check him out on myspace and soundcloud.

Silas Fermoy

Silas Fermoy is a collaboration of singer songwriter Joshua Mash, aka Shilo Andrews and Bass player Jordan Brower. Jordan Brower was born in Freehold New Jersey and started to play the drums at the age of 10. Not long after he picked up the bass. At the age of 18 some local friends of his formed the band "Harlequin Hint" and asked him to be their bass player. They were together for three years before going their separate ways. Josh was born and raised in London, England. At the age of 16 he moved to Northern California to live with his dad (a retired musician) where he studied music for the next four years. In that time he wrote and produced two albums (one by himself and the other with his hip-hop group "Live Long"). When he turned 19 he made the move to New York where he inevitably had to change his style as he was now only working with a guitar. He started playing the open mic circuit and eventually got picked up by Latelier Clair records under the Alias "Shilo Andrews" and released the album "Acceptance". A year later he started working at a tequila bar where he met Jordan. Originally intending to take Jordan on as the bass player for his solo project he invited him to his studio. After realizing that they had stumbled upon something new they started recording every week together.

Starting off as a one man show Josh Mash met Jordan and began a new journey. As they began working together they realized they had something that sounded interesting and ran with it. They soon named themselves Silas Fermoy. Silas came from Josh's first cats name and Fermoy was the street that he grew up on. Later, the band grew to four. Joshua Mash on vocals and keyboard, Jordan Brewer on bass, Ronny Mansyur on guitar, and James Shannon on drums.

Their first demo was written and produced by Josh and co-produced by Jordan. It was inspired by the late night walks they both had to make home at 4-5 in the morning, seeing nothing but city lights on the journey. Both songs "lights burn bright"'and "city lights" refer to the thoughts and emotions going through a persons mind on a walk/train ride home in New York City.

Oscars Opening Montage

I don't know how many of you watched the Oscars this past Sunday, but I just wanted to share the opening montage with everyone. I live with two film majors and have two others that live next door, so of course it was on in my apartment. It is a lot funnier when you have seen all the movies in the montage, but you will get a good laugh either way, or so I hope. We especially loved the Black Swan scene as it was filmed at Purchase College. Enjoy!
